phaethon dualwith DUALFLEX

This driver offers the ability to operate the two LEDs either simultaneously or independently, at each mode, at the desired level of brightness. That offers the option of many different mode combinations. The user can decide whether he wants 3, 4 or 5 modes plus the 2 standard 'supermodes'.  However if the user wants, he or she can customize it according to individual needs.

This driver is set up with 5 modes plus 6 strobe modes that operate the LEDs simultaneously. The user receives a lamp, ready to use, with no need for further programming, although limited customization is possible.

Both drivers are already set up by us for optimal performance.

    The Phaethon caving lamps use two LEDs, as most modern caving light systems do, one operating as a flood to fill almost the entire viewing field (wide) and the other producing a narrow stronger beam (spot) for long distances. The wide angle led floods light at 125 degrees. The spot uses an 18 degree optic ,for Phaethon, which we consider the most suitable and 4 degree for Phaethon Dual.

    About a year ago, we decided to adopt the GoPro mounting systems on our caving lamps. This offers the advantages of having a big variety of mounts for many different activities at a very reasonable cost. Great quality and huge availability are also ensured. We are now happy to see that other caving lamp manufacturers are using GoPro mounts for their caving lamps, something that will ensure full compatibility between them in the future, in the same way that many action cameras are using the same mount.

  For mounting the battery case we have chosen to keep it simple by using mini-bungee cords, instead of bolts. This option offers us certain advantages:

• Absorption of knocks making it less likely for something to break.
  
• Fast and easy mounting and unmounting.
  
• The two bungees could accommodate other things if needed, like a survivor blanket for instance.

​   To save bulk and weight, we run the Phaethon with two rather than four batteries. ​

    The two batteries ensure pretty good run times, so we feel justified by this decision. 

​   It is better to have a lighter lamp on the helmet and carry spare batteries in a pocket.

           We proudly present a new addition to the Phaethon range, the Phaethon Dual with a new driver and more capabilities to meet the needs of modern caving.

     The Phaethon Dual maintains the same quality and design externally, but contains a far more customizable driver than previous versions. The user can  operate the two LEDs both independently and simultaneously, at different, user selected levels of brightness. As with the original Phaethon, the user may select the LEDs that will be incorporated in order to meet his or her individual needs as a caver.

This exclusive lamp is handmade in Greece ​and is manufactured in limited quantities.

MOUNTING OPTIONS

    Phaethon lamps have been designed for use for both caving and cave diving, but not as a main diving torch for technical dives.

    The main purpose of it is to be used as a primary light on dives in sumps as a lightweight option where the transportation of diving equipment is a big issue. It may also be used as a backup light on diving expeditions where a technical torch is used and a head lamp is also needed when the cave exploration continues after the sump. However, if someone wants to operate it handheld, we could provide a goodman mount that could be used.

Gopro mount

Phaethon lamps use high quality drivers sourced from the American TASKLED . These offer great reliability and high efficiency of control and have been tested and developed over many years. They are the best possible solution we could have.

    On 13/07/2015 at Font Estramar in France, Xavier Meniscus accomplished a historical succesfull dive at -262 meters.        During his exploration he used Phaethon Dual.

About batteries

   UPGRADING THE LEDS

     Phaethon lamps are fully upgradable. The LEDs used can be removed and replaced with the more advanced LEDs that will come in the near future.
